MP: Announcing the MP series

In the coming weeks, a new series will begin to appear on this blog, the Macro-Principle one. It will be a series of posts outlining a MacroPrinciple (MP). Each will follow the same scheme with 5 sections:

  • The Gist: the MP summarized in a couple of sentences.
  • Origins: Why this MP has emerged and will stay (or not).
  • At Stake: Why this MP is an important one to focus on for both managers and investors.
  • Actionable ?: The “Now what ?” part of the MP. What you can or should do.
  • References: Both the thought leaders that coined the MP and further references to dig deeper.

These posts will be updated with new information to keep them current and won’t stay static, but updates won’t be noted as such. Think of them more as wiki pages than blog posts.

The posts will appear in their vast majority in the Fundamental Shifts and Strategic Shifts categories. The former is dedicated to the MP occurring as infrastructure and contextual trends. Think of them as something like climate change: you can’t do much to quickly alter it overnight, so you have to adapt to them.

Strategic Shifts outlines how you deal with these fundamental shifts: think of it as “you have to invest in new energy”, “relying on cheap oil in your business plans for the long-term is good plan to bankruptcy”, etc. Strategic Shifts are MP that you need to take into account when devising your strategy, whatever domain you’re in.

How do you find these posts ?

All blog posts will be tagged with an MP tag and you can access them on this page.

This will undoubtedly evolve as the posts starts. I’ll post an update here when it does.

Hope this will be useful for some!
